"JUST A TRACE"
Barry Smith (Nottingham Trent University School of Art and Design) Director, Performance Arts Digital Research Unit pays tribute to the hundreds of performance artists from the well-known to the well-obscure, who in the latter years of the 20th century so avidly and assiduously made new work that didn't quite fit into established norms of theatre, dance or even performance art - facilitating new pathways for performance, time-based work in the 21st century. Showing brief examples of a range of work from the Live Art and Digital Performance Archives, he will ponder:
* What were some of them actually doing?
* What is the purpose of archives?
* Who are they for?
* Do they provide practitioners a service or do a disservice?
* Are current copyright restrictions justified?
* Are digital archives just another phase?
